Kirche und Zivilgesellschaft im Wandel

Die offene Zukunft der Kirchen lässt nach ihrem Ort zwischen Staat, Markt und Zivilgesellschaft fragen. Denn Kirchen bewegen sich in einem religionspolitischen Rahmen, unterliegen Bewirtschaftungslogiken und agieren innerhalb zivilgesellschaftlicher Öffentlichkeiten. Aus sozialwissenschaftlichen und theologischen Perspektiven werden sie in diesem trisektoralem Feld analysiert und verstärkt dem Bereich der Zivilgesellschaft zugeordnet. So wird deutlich, wie die Kirchen als zivilgesellschaftliche Akteurinnen ihre religiöse Identität im Dienst des Gemeinwohls zur Geltung bringen können. Ihr Beitrag muss sich immer wieder neu im Spannungsfeld von theologischer Identität, gesellschaftlicher Offenheit und demokratischer Teilhabe bewähren.

[Church and Civil Society in Transition. Between State, Market and Public Responsibility]
The uncertain future of churches raises questions about their position between the state, the market and civil society. Churches operate within a religious-political framework, are subject to economic logic and act within civil society. From social science and theological perspectives, they are analysed in this trisectoral field and increasingly assigned to the sphere of civil society. This highlights how churches, as civil society actors, can assert their religious identity in the service of the common good. Their contribution must continually prove itself in the tension between theological identity, social openness and democratic participation.
